Smart Dogs

As a trainer for over 10 years, I believe there is no such thing as a dumb dog and each has it's own strengths. Also, just because Fido is hard to train, doesn't mean he's dumb. In fact I personally have found that the dogs who challenge us, are the ones who are always thinking. So do keep that in mind when looking into your next breed. Make sure you have the resources to work with such a stubborn animal.

According to AKC (American Kennel Club) here are some of the smartest dogs in the k-9 world.

  1. Border Collie- Smart enough to heard sheep and other livestock. Quick on their feet.
  2. Poodle- Used as police dogs in some areas of the world.
  3. German Shepherd Dog - His willingness to please goes a long way.
  4. Golden Retriever- One of the favorites for service animals due to their calm nature.
  5. Doberman Pinscher- Fearless, and smart. Used in wars and all around loyal dogs.

Do be sure to do through research on these breeds before you get one. Even a mix from the shelter could come with it's own set of challenges.

About Me

Hey there, I just wanted to take this time to thank you for stopping by. I'm guessing you've come here to learn about dogs, or about some awesome products for your own pooch. You've come to the right place, and let me tell you why.

Growing up my dad had a dream, after he got a new lease on life, and a heart valve replacement, he was ready to follow that dream. He went to school and took a six week course to become a certified dog trainer. Less than a year later he opened up his own business in Northwest Indian called "Great Lakes K-9". Here is where my story begins.

I grew up in the dog world, I worked with him. It was a small family business, one that I still take pride in even thought the original empire is no longer around. I started out in the back as kennel help. Taking care of the dogs that were there for boarding. As I grew older I stepped up into my role as a trainer. My entire life has gone to the dogs.

Over 20 years I have worked with thousands of dogs and more breeds and mixes than I can count. I've worked with pets, police dogs, and even service dogs, and I can think of nothing better to do with my life. Well, other than compile all of this information and share it with you.

I hope you enjoy your visit here and that you find something new and exciting, if not, be sure to stick around, I'm sure this old dog has a few new tricks.
